Work To Start To Replace Sewer In Plymouth

South West Water is to start essential work to replace a section of sewer on Saltash Road in Pennycomequick, Plymouth, to improve the service to residents in the area.

The work represents a £190,000 investment in the wastewater network in Pennycomequick and will involve replacing around 35 metres of damaged sewer to prevent sewer flooding on Saltash Road.

In order to complete the work – which will begin next Monday 23 August and is expected to last five weeks – a closure will be in place on a section of the footpath and the left-hand lane on Saltash Road leading to Pennycomequick Roundabout. This closure will be in operation 24/7 throughout the work.

The bus stop and pedestrian crossing by the roundabout will also be closed but diversion signs will be in place to advise of the nearest alternatives. There will be no impact on access to businesses.

James Howourth, South West Water Project Manager, said: "The economy and wellbeing of our region is reliant on the environment we live in and we believe that zero harm to the environment is as important as zero harm for employees.

"This essential replacement work will reduce the risk of sewer flooding for residents in Pennycomequick, some of whom have previously experienced flooding due to the poor condition of the existing sewer.

"Due to the location of the sewer and to maintain the health and safety of the public and our workers, the repair will require a lane closure, however, this will be clearly signed to reduce any impact on road users.

"While it is vital we carry out these essential sewer upgrades we will look to complete the work with as little disruption as possible."
