Consultation Launches To Build New Homes In Manchester
A public consultation has launched for plans to deliver 162 homes for private rent across two apartment buildings at Pomona Island in Trafford, as part of Peel L&P's Manchester Waters development.
Peel L&P is bringing forward the proposals to help regenerate this vacant site and bring much needed quality homes along with significant improvements in the public realm and connectivity. This represents the next phase in the development of this strategic brownfield location at the heart of the regional centre.
The proposed apartments sit within a wider masterplan for Manchester Waters, which was recently approved by Trafford Council. An outline planning application for the development of the wider area is being prepared and is expected to be submitted in 2022.
Once delivered, the apartments will be available to be privately rented, providing more opportunities and flexible options for people to live in this key location. A range of one, two and three-bedroom apartments will be delivered. Residents of the new development will be able to enjoy a communal terrace, courtyard garden and residents lounge providing quality spaces to relax and socialise.
The site is located very close to Cornbrook Metrolink Station and within walking and cycling distance to an array of other public transport options, such as Pomona Metrolink Station, and Deansgate train station. A cycle parking space for every apartment will be delivered as part of the proposals, promoting sustainable travel.
42 car parking spaces, including electric vehicle charging points, will be delivered alongside car club facilities to help combat congestion and cut CO2 emissions. The plans also create part of two new waterfront pedestrian and cycleways along the Manchester Ship Canal and Bridgewater Canal, connecting residents and the wider community to the surrounding city area.
The proposals represent a significant investment into the local area and will create new jobs throughout the construction stage. The new residents will increase footfall in local shops and services, increasing spend in the local economy.
