New Dark Sky Observatory Brought To Life With Deck25™ Composite Decking

The new Dark Sky Observatory in the foothills of the Sperrins, in Davagh Forest, Co Tyrone, has been brought to life with help from Deck25™ composite decking.
This landmark project represents an important local and national ecological milestone with serious Ecotourism potential.
The building's form is not only defined but accentuated by the 250m2 of Deck25™ solid composite deck board that was used to create the signature entrance and boardwalks.
The blue tones of the slate grey Deck25™ decking compliment and gently contrast against the western red cedar cladding of the Dark Sky Observatory Building.
Walking towards the building's entrance, across each Deck25™ deck-board, the visitor experiences high slip-resistance underfoot. Pendulum test values (PTV) of 57 dry and 45 wet maximise visitor safety. PTV values exceeding 35 are considered to be low slip risk.
A slight, unnoticeable fall in the deck (approximately 1 in 80) drains the deck, from right to left.
Deck25™ decking in conjunction with the supporting structure achieves a UDL of 5kN/m2.
Deck25™ is an Eco-product, manufactured from recycled plastic bottles and recycled hardwood fibres from the furniture industry. It is a perfect match for the project in many ways.
