Specialist engineering business Keltbray has won a £6m contract to deliver the design and construction of a new Waste Processing Facility.
The project encompasses the construction of a new facility on a 1.1 Ha brownfield site in Hull which will contribute to increased energy and job creation for the local community.
The project will be delivered for Geminor, a leading resource management company in Europe specialising in the supply of waste products to material recycling and energy recovery. Upon completion, the facility will be located close to the Energy Works (Hull) energy plant, and will provide Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) to this and other nearby UK Energy from Waste plant’s (EfW’s), with the option to export RDF to other European EFW’s for contingency purposes.
The new site will require earthworks, drainage and levelling to be carried out before civils works progress to the construction of the 3,800m2 portal frame and clad processing facility.
The project will be delivered by Keltbray, with key scope items including:
• Piled foundations to suspended floor foundations
• Construction of site roads and hard-standings for frequent Heavy Goods Vehicle use
• Erection and cladding of the portal frame process building
• Building services (small power, lighting, power to roller doors)
The completed facility will comprise of a steel framed and clad reception and screening building, with piled foundations and concrete floor slab, supported by piles, insulated cladding and liner systems to external walls and roof. Concrete and block walls will form internal storage areas used for managing feed stock. Other installations will include fire suppression, odour control, weighbridges, roller shutter doors, roof lights, associated M&E installations, and external works.
Richard Smith, Pre-Construction Director at Keltbray, said: "This has been a target project for us and we are delighted to be part of the delivery team. Upon completion, this site will contribute to increased energy creation for the local community, whilst further strengthening our position in the region."
