Weston Homes has been given the go-ahead by Brentwood Borough Council for its new £19 million (GDV) 0.51-acre development.
The development will include 60 mixed tenure apartments, located off Brentwood High Street on Western Road.
Construction is set to begin in October 2022, with the sales launch planned for Spring 2023 and build completion anticipated in Summer 2024. The new development will deliver 60 new homes comprised of 39 one- and two-bedroom market sale apartments, 11 one bedroom discount-market-sale apartments for local people living and working in the Borough and 10 one and two bedroom affordable rent apartments.
The mixture of tenures means that 35% of the development provides much needed affordable housing for local people in Brentwood and will also deliver a private landscaped residents' courtyard garden, under-croft carpark with 31 bays and 68 cycle spaces.
The architecture and design was undertaken by Weston Homes’ in-house Architecture Department, with the landscaping and planting designed by DUTCH Landscape Architects, with input from Hayden’s Arboricultural Consultants.
Each apartment has access to their own private outdoor space in the form of either a balcony or terrace, with large floor-to-ceiling windows to fill the homes with light. Residents also have access to the large south-facing courtyard garden which will be complete with seating and trees, as well as an upper seating area with informal chairs and greenery. Both outdoor spaces make for beautiful communal areas for residents to enjoy and creates a sense of community within the development.
Each home complies with the National Space Standards and are wheelchair adaptable. The apartments have been designed with sustainability in mind, intending to ensure low air leakage levels, insulated flooring, walls and roofs as well as energy efficient lighting throughout. Plenty of cycle spaces are provided to encourage cycling in place of other modes of transport in line with the Brentwood Council Cycle Strategy.
Bob Weston, Chairman and Managing Director at Weston Homes said: "Weston Homes is delighted to have been granted planning approval by Brentwood Borough Council for our new apartment development on Western Road in Brentwood. Weston Homes has a strong relationship with Brentwood Borough Council which started in 2018 when we agreed to redevelop the former Brentwood Police Station site into a new residential development known as 1023 West. Our new apartment scheme on Western Road will provide much needed affordable housing for local people living and working in Brentwood and will also provide market sale homes for first time buyers and young couples who want to live in stylish apartments close to Brentwood high street."
