Building firm Kier has been named as a supplier to Crown Commercial Service's Construction Works and Associated Services 2 (CWAS2) / ProCure 23 (P23) framework.
The four-year agreement will provide construction works to the NHS in England and all other UK public sector bodies in addition to larger value, general construction and airfield projects.
Crown Commercial Service supports the public sector to achieve maximum commercial value when procuring common goods and services. In 2020/21, CCS helped the public sector to achieve commercial benefits equal to £2.04 billion.
Kier has a strong track record of successfully delivering new and refurbished buildings through the Procure frameworks. Over the last 19 years, it has delivered £1.5bn healthcare projects, including the recently-opened Heatherwood Hospital, which has undergone a £98m transformation that now offers state-of-the-art theatres, outpatient and diagnostic facilities, as well as primary care hub. The new hospital, which will play a central role in supporting the NHS with the COVID-19 backlog, utilised Building Information Modelling (BIM) during construction and also includes a range of sustainable features, including a solar farm covering a large section of the hospital's roof.
As a long-term partner on the Procure frameworks, Kier has played a leading role in transforming the delivery of healthcare projects, such as leading the Efficiency and Productivity Programme, creating the P22 process map, collaborating on the creation of the Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) response for the framework and delivering a programme of Nightingale Hospitals in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Kier has been appointed to the following Lots on the P23 Framework:
• P23: Healthcare Solution Provider (projects worth less than £20m): North East; North West; East of England; South West
• P23: Healthcare Solution Provider (projects worth £70m+): national lot
• CWAS2: Airfield Works: national lot
• CWAS2: General Construction Works (projects worth £80m+): national lot.
Liam Cummins, Group managing director for Kier Construction said: "At Kier, we are incredibly proud of our longstanding track record of delivering first-class healthcare projects for Trusts and patients across England. We have the capability, skill and supply chain to deliver projects of all scales across the country and, through the new P23 framework, we look forward to continuing to support the NHS with much-needed new facilities.
"We share the ambitions of NHS England and NHS Improvement and CCS and we will be working to the principles of the Construction Playbook to provide new healthcare buildings which utilise digital and modern methods of construction to provide a more sustainable healthcare estate across England."
