CIOB Partners With UCEM To Offer A Degree Apprenticeship Programme

Construction News Image
The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and University College of Estate Management (UCEM) have teamed up to offer a degree apprenticeship programme which is also a route to chartered status as a construction professional.

Apprentices already on the Construction Site Management programme who are due to complete their end-point assessment in September this year will be part of the first cohort who can claim their apprenticeship certificate, degree and chartered member status with CIOB.

UCEM launched the Construction Site Management degree apprenticeship in 2020 and the timing of CIOB’s acceptance onto the register of end-point assessment organisations in England means all apprentices on the programme will now be able to complete their end-point assessment with CIOB.

The level 6 apprenticeship standards which CIOB can now deliver end-point assessments for are:

• Construction Site Management

• Construction Quantity Surveyor

• Design and Construction Management.

The partnership between UCEM and CIOB will support the first cohort of Level 6 Construction Site Management degree apprentices this year. As part of this partnership, CIOB is offering the option of becoming a chartered member, able to use the post-nominal of MCIOB, for all apprentices. The process has been designed to be relatively simple, focussing on mapping evidence of the on-programme journey towards membership requirements.

Stephen Bartle, UCEM's executive director – business development and apprenticeships, commented: "Having CIOB provide the end-point assessment for our Construction Site Management apprenticeship is the perfect arrangement for apprentices seeking to become chartered construction professionals. UCEM has offered CIOB-accredited degrees for many years and is an approved provider of the CIOB Chartered Membership Programme for experienced professionals. As one of the largest providers of degree apprenticeships for the built environment, it’s great to extend our partnership with CIOB to include the Construction Site Management apprenticeship."
