Construction News Image
Proposals for a new nursing home and more green space for the community have been approved for Peel L&P's Chatham Waters development in Medway, Kent.

Medway Council has granted planning consent for specialist healthcare provider Montpelier Estates to build a 74-bed nursing home to support older people and those with dementia in the community, creating around 80 new jobs.

The development, across four floors will feature a large roof terrace, garden, bistro café, hairdressers, cinema and space for community events, relaxation and keep fit activities.

The development is part of Peel L&P's wider plans to start the delivery of more than 300 new homes this year, 237 of which would be affordable housing in partnership with Legal & General Affordable Homes (LGAH).

Montpelier Estates' nursing home will continue to support Peel L&P’s vison to create a new mixed-use development with a variety of residential homes at Chatham Waters.

Proposals for more public realm and green space for the community including trees, seating and play areas were also given planning consent at the same time.

Chatham Waters is just 36 minutes from London St Pancras by train and a mix of residential, commercial, retail, leisure and education space by the River Medway.

Peel L&P has already invested £100m in Chatham Waters, created around 750 jobs and completed almost 400 of the 950 total homes from the outline planning permission that was granted in 2013.

Peel L&P has also made significant financial contributions towards highway infrastructure, public transport links, education, health, sports facilities, waste & recycling facilities, training and workforce, Great Lines Heritage Park as well as creating five acres of quality public realm that also acts a flood defence for the entire site.

In addition, the 26-acre site is home to a University Technical College, Marston's family restaurant, Asda Superstore and extensive public realm.
