Skanska Appoints Rail Operations Director
Skanska has appointed James Corker as Operations Director (Rail).
He brings more than 20 years' experience in rail and civil engineering, most recently with Morgan Sindall where he was Area Director responsible for all Network Rail and third-party rail projects.
Alongside his extensive rail experience, James will bring expertise in customer relationship management, operational efficiency – where he will focus on ensuring safe, consistent and sustainable project delivery – and business leadership, creating inclusive cultures where people can thrive to reach their potential.
"James has significant rail sector and industry experience and we’re delighted that he is joining Skanska," said Jonathan Willcock, Managing Director of Skanska's Infrastructure business. "We have exciting growth plans for the future and James’ capabilities, including his knowledge and understanding of our markets aligned with his customer focus, will support the strategic development of our business.
"James also has a very clear alignment with our culture and values. He will provide leadership, supporting our operational teams to deliver successful projects that leave a lasting benefit for society. We're very much looking forward to James joining the business later this month."
James has held operational management positions since 2015. Notable projects that he has delivered in these roles include the Werrington Grade Separation, a £169m design and build dive under scheme on the east coast mainline; the Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP) – a £200m electrification programme including the EGIP Alliance and Stirling, Dunblane, Alloa (SDA) electrification – and Kings Cross remodelling, a £259m throat remodelling project in the heart of an operational Kings Cross Station. Other large infrastructure programmes that James has led include Ilford depot for Crossrail and Reading Depot for Network Rail on the Reading Station Area Regeneration programme.
In addition to his work in the rail sector, James has been responsible for operations in the highways, power, nuclear and water sectors. Commenting on his appointment, James said: "I'm delighted to be joining Skanska at this exciting time. It’s an extremely professional and well-run business that has, and continues to deliver, some of the country's largest and most complex infrastructure projects.
"During my time in the industry I’ve heard a lot of positivity on Skanska's reputation, which has been reinforced after visiting some of their high-profile projects, which were really good experiences. People always speak so highly about working for Skanska and I’m now very much looking forward to joining the business."
