Essential Work To Begin To Strengthen Culvert In Hawes

Construction News Image
North Yorkshire County Council has announced that essential work to strengthen a culvert under a main road in Hawes is set to begin after an inspection found it to be in a poor condition.

The council confirmed it will be strengthening the culvert under Burtersett Road to prevent it degrading any further.

The road surface will be stripped and the land above the arch excavated before a 300mm thick concrete saddle is installed.

Work will begin on Monday 4 July, lasting for three weeks. It will be carried out in two phases with alternative lane closures using three-way traffic lights.

County Councillor Yvonne Peacock, who represents the Upper Dales division, said: "There will be two phases to the work in order to avoid a full road closure to reduce disruption as much as possible.

"We appreciate that this is going to cause some level of inconvenience to local residents and businesses but we ask for your patience during the working period. We will of course keep the public updated as work progresses."

On-site personnel will assist in managing vehicle access to properties and businesses within the closure but there may be times when access is not possible. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
