A construction worker from Chester-le-Street in Durham has won a to regional building award after impressing a client with his expert craftsmanship, hard-working attitude, and commitment to his local community.
Andrew Radford, won the Northern Tradesperson of the Year, at the Federation of Master Builders' 2021 Northern Counties Master Builder Awards, which were hosted online on June 4th.
Counties Master Builder Awards
● His firm, Radford Construction Services, also picked up prizes for Commercial or Public Sector Project, Bathroom Project, and Small Renovation Project.
● They will now be entered into the UK Master Builder Awards for these categories.
The awards recognise excellence in the UK's small and medium-sized construction companies and are run by the FMB, the largest trade association in the UK construction sector, which is this year celebrating its 80th anniversary.
The clients who nominated Andrew found the quality of his craftsmanship 'exemplary', and commended his hands-on approach to work; sitting, designing and discussing every aspect of the build. Andrew's service was also called 'inspiring'. While on a previous job, Andrew even attended regular calls, despite being on his honeymoon in the Carribean. Beyond his building expertise, Andrew is a well-respected and charitable member of his local
community. He actively supports charities in his area, once zip wiring off the Tyne Bridge in an effort to raise money, while himself and his wife also delivered food packages during the pandemic.
The clients stated: "The FMB should be very proud to have him as a member, as he epitomises everything they stand for."
To top off Andrew's personal success, his firm Radford Construction went on to win three further regional awards during the evening.
From the conversion of an old Stanley farmhouse into a bespoke wedding venue with a luxury bathroom, to the transformation of a cow byre into a home in Sacriston, Radford Construction impressed clients and judges alike.
Regarding the commercial and bathroom projects, one judge complimented: the "fabulous wedding venue and exciting bathroom design concept that was expertly executed".
For the small renovation project, another described Radford Construction's team as "the key success of this project", despite the uniqueness of the property and "very particular set of issues" they were faced with.
Andrew Radford, Director at Radford Construction, said: "We are extremely proud to have received these awards on behalf of all our team, and everyone involved in these winning builds.
"We humbly thank our customers for taking the time to nominate us."
Caroline Meehan, Director of FMB North, said: "Outstanding projects, workmanship, and attention to clients' needs are characteristic of our Northern Counties Master Builders.
"Radford Construction is a brilliant, all-round winner, and the company has really excelled at this year's Awards, winning with an impressive set of projects under the great leadership of Andrew.
"After a really tough year for small builders, it's brilliant to see so much affection for their great work."
