Kier Appointed For Net Zero Carbon School Project
The Department for Education (DfE) has appointed Kier to deliver a brand-new net zero carbon in operation school for Deyes High School in Maghull, Sefton.
The new 10,000m2 two/three-storey building will include over 60 classrooms, and other facilities, such as a main hall, sports hall, dining and kitchen areas and a part-covered Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). Once the new building is in operation, all the original buildings, apart from the current sixth form block, will be demolished.
Sustainable design features include a full Biosolar green roof, solar panels, and high performing thermal insulation and passive ventilation solutions. Air source heat pumps will be installed and there will be no dependency on fossil fuels for heating or hot water.
The school will also benefit from a wildlife garden, a nature trail, and a habitat area to support learning and encourage students to connect with nature and support their well-being.
The new teaching building is due to be complete for spring 2024, followed by external works completion in the spring 2025.
Sean Fenner, regional director at Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver this net zero carbon in operation school for the Department for Education and the local community of Maghull.
"We have been working closely with the school and the DfE on the design of its new building which will provide first-class facilities as well as providing significant environmental benefits.
"At Kier, we have a proven track record in delivering educational buildings and we will utilise our extensive experience, and local supply chain partners to deliver this important new project for the Maghull community."
