Keltbray Wins Deal Worth Over £10m
Keltbray has won a deal worth over £10 million to deliver key civil engineering works on the Pembroke Converter Station (part of the Greenlink Interconnector Project) on behalf of Siemens Energy.
The Greenlink Interconnector Scheme is considered one of Europe’s most important energy infrastructure projects and has the potential to power 380,000 homes.
The Greenlink Interconnector Project is an electricity interconnector between County Wexford, Republic of Ireland and Pembrokeshire, Wales. The Interconnector Project will transfer power using high voltage direct current (HVDC) via submarine and underground cables over approximately 200km between two converter stations located in Wexford, Ireland (EirGrid) and Pembroke, Wales (National Grid). The power will be able to flow in either direction, depending on supply and demand in each country.
Greenlink is of vital importance as it will provide significant additional interconnection between Ireland and Great Britain, with onward connections to continental Europe. The construction and development of Greenlink will deliver increased energy security, regional investment and value for money to consumers in Ireland, Great Britain and continental Europe, and will enable the further integration of low carbon renewable energy sources.
Keltbray previously delivered the Viking Link Enabling and Platform works, another Interconnector project in Lincolnshire, on behalf of Siemens Energy.
Rich Smith, Pre-Construction Director, at Keltbray said: "It's fantastic to continue our relationship with Siemens Energy through the award of this prestigious scheme. Greenlink is a flagship project for Keltbray, and we look forward to commencing on site and working with all project and local stakeholders throughout to deliver on this vital development."
Keltbray is due to start on site later this month with completion expected late summer 2023.
