Work Complete On New £17.9m Emergency Department
Construction firm Kier has completed work a new state-of-the-art £17.9m emergency department to Northern Lincolnshire & Goole NHS Foundation Trust.
The new department doubles the size of the old unit and is set to provide first-class facilities for the local community.
The standalone building consists of rapid assessment treatment areas, resuscitation and minor, majors and paediatric assessment cubicles. There is a CT scanner, decontamination room, relatives' room along with patient waiting areas as well as amenities for staff.
There is another phase of works to this hospital programme, with the old A&E facilities being stripped out and a new same day emergency care unit will be created. This space will provide emergency care for patients and will also house refreshment and retail outlets within the hospital grounds. A new entrance will be formed to the emergency department joining it onto the existing hospital.
The project was procured through the P22+ framework.
Dan Doherty, regional director at Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: "The delivery of this new Emergency Department builds on our extensive experience as a leading builder of healthcare facilities. The new department will support staff to effectively provide treatment to patients at the Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.
"Alongside this, our focus has also been to give back to the communities in which we work. To date we have delivered seven educational site visits / workshops, created nine new jobs and undertaken three community led-projects."
