Milestone Infrastructure Shortlisted For Highways Awards
Milestone Infrastructure, a part of M Group Services Transport Division, has been shortlisted in two award categories at this year's Highways Awards for its work on the Hampshire Highways contract.
The awards recognise the established and successful collaboration between Milestone Infrastructure and its client Hampshire County Council, working together as Hampshire Highways.
The team has been shortlisted in the Environmental Sustainability Award and Highway Partnership Award categories.
The Hampshire Highways Carbon Strategy, launched in 2020, is shortlisted for the Environmental Sustainability Award.
Aligned with Hampshire County Council’s ambition to be carbon neutral by 2050, the strategy includes long and short-term solutions and considers how to ensure the sustainability of projects, from the planning and design stages through to the delivery.
The Micheldever Road Materials Recycling Facility is shortlisted for the Highway Partnership Award.
The facility, created in partnership between Milestone Infrastructure, Hampshire County Council and OCL Regeneration, first started operating in January 2021 thanks to the County Council’s investment. At the end of March 2022, it had recycled 25,553 tonnes of construction waste, saving 485 tonnes of CO2 emissions, the equivalent to driving 233 average petrol cars for a year. This saved an astonishing £945,148 in waste road materials disposal costs for the Hampshire Highways contract.
In November 2021, the Micheldever site received an international Green Apple award recognising its contribution to environmental sustainability. Details have been shared with other county councils who are now working with Hampshire County Council, Milestone Infrastructure and OCL Regeneration to implement similar facilities.
Anna Harries, Sustainability Manager at Milestone Infrastructure, said: "As Hampshire Highways, together with Hampshire County Council, we have set bold targets and a clear action plan to achieve net-zero by 2050. We held two carbon workshops with our client and supply chain and these opportunities for collaboration have helped us with our low carbon focus.
"The Micheldever Road Materials Recycling Facility is vital in helping Hampshire Highways reduce carbon and continually trial new, sustainable products and methods."
