Refurbishment work on a new, inclusive play area has been completed at Chells Park in Stevenage.
The play area was upgraded as part of Stevenage Borough Council's refurbishment programme, and now provides play for children aged between two and 14 years old.
The new equipment was chosen based on feedback from a consultation event attended by local children and pupils at Campshill School. The area includes elements of inclusive play and as part of the improvements, the play area has been moved from its previous location to make it more easily accessible and visible.
The works cost around £170,000. Councillors Stephen Booth and Tom Wren collectively contributed £1000 of Local Community Budget to the play area works.
Councillor Simon Speller, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Climate Change, said: "We know how important play and time outdoors is to children and their development, which is why we are improving play areas across Stevenage. I am delighted that the local ward members have fully supported this scheme and we’d like to thank all the local children and the pupils at Campshill School for sharing their views and helping to shape the new play area, which provides an enjoyable outdoor space for local children to enjoy."
Over the past six years, the council has completed refurbishment works to over 40 of the equipped play spaces in Stevenage.
