Kier has completed work on Crawley Civic Office and it has officially been handed over to Crawley Borough Council (CBC).
The building forms a modern centrepiece for the town centre, created as part of the £150 million Crawley town centre regeneration plan.
The new nine-storey, 149,059 sq. ft building provides office space for CBC on the first 3.5 floors and enables the council to generate new revenue from commercial leasing on the upper floors. It provides modern facilities to improve service delivery, including:
• A new customer service centre
• Council chamber
• Committee rooms
• Meeting rooms and office/collaboration break-out spaces
• Public and communal areas with flexible design, to transform into event spaces
The façade has specifically been designed to minimise overheating and glare in summer and excessive heat loss in winter, helping with sustainability and reducing the council’s operational costs.
As part of CBC's Employment and Skills programme, Kier worked closely with Crawley College and local schools to engage with local students throughout the build process. Key social value initiatives included hosting site visits, offering graduate and industrial placements, managing digital workshops, volunteering at West Green Primary School and participating in local careers events including STEM in the Park and the Crawley Apprenticeship fair.
David McKenzie, managing director at Kier Construction London and Southern, said: "The handover of this fantastic new landmark in the town centre marks another key project we have delivered for the Crawley community. I am especially proud of our team’s social value contribution throughout this build process, inspiring the next generation of talent in Crawley and ensuring that local students could benefit from this high profile project in their area."
