Bromley Council has approved plans to redevelop 275 homes at Calverley Close in Beckenham.
The application was for a mix of 179 affordable homes and 96 market sale properties. A phased demolition of the existing properties will allow the present residents to move directly into their new homes from their current dwellings on the site, as the development will be carried out in six phases over ten years.
Councillor Alexa Michael, Chairman of Development Control Committee, said: "This is a well-considered application that will add to the borough's housing stock and build improved homes for existing residents. While I am mindful of some of the concerns of neighbours and residents, the developer has produced a reasonable scheme with a design in keeping with the locality. I am glad the committee was able to approve it."
The site is located on the eastern side of Southend Lane near Beckenham Place Park. The proposed development will be for a mix of flats and townhouses which will result in an improved standard of housing and an overall increase in space for the affordable housing. There will be a net gain of 71 market homes on the site. The proposals also include car parking, cycle parking, landscaping and the creation of communal spaces. The application will be referred back to the Mayor of London for any final direction before a formal decision is issued.
Riverside, who currently manage the properties, is bringing forward the development in partnership with Countryside Partnerships.
