Breaking The Mould: A Barrier To Beat The Rest

Construction News Image
A company in Sussex has developed a new barrier that's a real revolution in construction site safety. The Manta Barrier from SafeSite Facilities is a fully crash- and wind-tested barrier with exceptional durability and versatility.

Manta barriers will last for the full lifetime of your project, whether you’re involved in street works, road or highway works, traffic management, construction sites, car parks or events.

They can be simply and quickly configured with a range of different ‘add-ons’ to perform the required function. Robust construction ensures these barriers can be deployed and relocated as often as the project dictates.

Manta barriers are crafted from tough, recyclable powder-coated steel to provide maximum visibility and withstand the elements.

Save cash, crash safe

Cost has been a critical factor in the design and manufacture of the Manta barrier. SafeSite Facilities have used lighter yet durable materials with a modular design for easy installation and maintenance.

The Manta barrier's versatility means it works in different situations and conditions, avoiding the expense of multiple types of barriers. That one barrier can do so much via multiple configurations ensures economical and easy installation.

Crash-test champion

The new Manta barrier system has been meticulously crash-tested by experts and proven to provide superior protection against severe impact with a phenomenal "A" rating in its ASI and THIV assessments. The British Standard crash course W7 of BS EN 1317:2010 was passed with flying colours.

Withstanding an impressive 1,300 kg impact at over 50 mph, the new Manta barrier absorbed the energy of crashes, minimising damage to both vehicles and the barrier itself. This level of performance makes the Manta barrier an ideal solution for roads with high speeds and heavy traffic.

Wind-tested wonder

The Manta barrier was tested in an internationally renowned wind tunnel and received an "A" rating against a 70 mph wind speed that simulated the most severe weather conditions, proving its effectiveness in protecting drivers and preventing accidents.

Three arrangements were tested in the tunnel: the barrier on its own, the lightweight pedestrian fence, and the anti-climb mesh add-on. In every configuration, the Manta proved robust and reliable against extreme wind conditions.

Versatility in utility

The Manta can be used on its own or in combination with other products for additional security. For instance, the anti-climb mesh add-on can guard against trespassers and help protect road workers from collisions.

The pedestrian fence and Chapter 8 add-ons are both 1.5 metres high, offering different solutions to various circumstances.

The Chapter 8 compliant add-on features high visibility and reflective red and white markings. Manufactured from galvanised steel, this excellent barrier protects drivers, workers, and pedestrians.

Then there's the Manta 3m high add-on fence, one of the lightest anti-climb units on the market, allowing for ease of storage and installation. With a height of three metres, site supervisors have peace of mind knowing the chances of an intrusion are dramatically reduced.

No connection bar

The key to the Manta barrier’s innovative design and versatile installation is the elimination of the connection bar found in most barrier systems. The barriers are instead held together by a lightweight pin plate when used as a standalone barrier, or by the legs of the add-on fencing units when used as a base for these products. Because no connection bar is required, installation times are minimised, handling is made easier and transport costs are reduced.

A revolutionary road barrier

In whichever configuration it's installed, the Manta is proving to be a superior barrier for safety against vehicular impact and trespass. Michael Knibbs, Managing Director at SafeSite Facilities, commented on the new Manta barrier:

"We feel sure the Manta barrier will be a real winner. The idea for the Manta came to us when we considered how many different barriers were required for various scenarios. Given that costs are rising across the board, we thought it would be great to have one simple barrier that can be configured in many different ways."

Businesses will be pleased to hear the Manta is available for hire or purchase and can be painted in a range of colours to suit any organisation’s branding. Companies across Britain will feel safer working in traffic knowing that this tried and tested barrier has their back.
