Tim Wates Appointed Chairman

Tim Wates has officially been appointed as Chairman of the Wates Group.

As he took the reins from his cousin Sir James, Tim reflected on the company’s strong financial performance and the family values that continue to guide what we do, enabling our growth as a sustainable, entrepreneurial business and pushing us to make a positive difference to society.

He also celebrated the dedication and hard work of all our people, who make Wates a bright and ambitious company that we can be proud of.

Tim said: "I'd like to thank the Board and the shareholders for giving me this opportunity to serve as Chairman and, of course, thank you to James for his excellent ten years in the role. Now, as I take the helm, I commit to giving it my all and am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead."

Having joined us in 1993, Tim served on our Board from 2006 to 2008 and again since 2011. He was appointed Deputy Chairman in October 2022. Outside of the company, he serves on the Advisory Board of the Cambridge Judge Business School and is a Deputy Lieutenant of Surrey. He is currently the High Sheriff of Surrey. For six years he was Chairman of the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership, completing his two terms in July 2020. He served as a trustee of The Clink Charity from 2011 to April 2023.
