New Electric Vehicle Charging Points For Watford
Watford Borough Council have announced plans to install 79 new electric vehicle charging points.
The new dual charging points will be placed across the town as part of plans to make travel more sustainable within the region. The new charging points will bring Watford's total number of points up to 102.
The project has been led by Watford Borough Council with funding by the government's Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV). The funding for Watford comes via 60% from OZEV and the other 40% of the install costs through the council's contract with partners Blink Charging. The total investment is £1.3 million.
Commenting on the plans Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor, said: "We are delighted that we will be installing 79 new EV charging points across the town. This is a significant step towards our goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transport. It is really important that we have the charging infrastructure in place so that people can switch to EV vehicles.
"Watford's commitment to green transport has already resulted in significant achievements, including being ranked in the top 5 UK towns. This achievement is a testament to the town's commitment to a cleaner environment and underscores the importance of investing in sustainable transport infrastructure for a cleaner, more sustainable future."
Reflecting on the acquisition of funding, Cllr Ian Stotesbury, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Sustainability, said: "We are delighted to have obtained this funding that will enable us to extend our EV charging infrastructure, facilitating the utilisation of electric vehicles. As a council, we are dedicated to decreasing carbon emissions in the borough by implementing various initiatives.
"A significant number of individuals in Watford already use electric vehicles, which are proven to decrease pollution and enhance local air quality. Thus, it is crucial to have an adequate charging infrastructure in place, and I would like to express my gratitude to the hardworking team that obtained this grant funding."
