Keltbray has scooped a £17 million earthworks contract to support a major construction project at Sellafield.
The company will act on behalf of Programme and Project Partners (PPP) to prepare for the construction of Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1).
They will also create a new access road and drainage to the LSS1 site. This will be accompanied by temporary utility supplies to both the LSS1 construction plot and the adjacent temporary accommodation plot.
The former nuclear-power-generating and nuclear-waste-reprocessing site at Sellafield includes 200 nuclear facilities and over 1,000 buildings.
The PPP framework covers more than 20 major decommissioning projects with work packages let to delivery partners like Keltbray, under NEC contracts.
Commenting on the project, Keltbray Chief Executive Officer, Darren James said: "We're delighted to be selected to deliver this critical contract, which will showcase our expertise in delivering to a high specification in safety-critical nuclear environments.
"Working together under this highly innovative enterprise framework will help to create a clean and safe environment at the Sellafield site for future generations, improve sustainability and provide continued support for the local economy and communities."
Reflecting on their successful contract bid, David Sloyan, Operations Director at Keltbray, said: "Winning this contract represents major strategic progress for Keltbray, and we are delighted to have been selected for the work after a rigorous tendering process. Through this early engagement, we have been able to consistently prove we can provide working solutions to nuclear industry challenges across the UK, and we will again showcase the capabilities of our fantastic team through this contract with PPP for Sellafield Limited."
