Final Date Announced For Special School Construction In West Sussex
ISG has announced a completion date for its construction work on the new Woodlands Meed College in Burgess Hill.
Work on the 100-place special educational needs school is set to complete on 25 August 2023. The project is valued at £21.6 million.
The new building will feature a new hydrotherapy pool, 12 new classrooms, with more space and specialist learning areas for music, sciences and food technology and an outside courtyard and amphitheatre where children can sit together and hold sporting and social events.
Other features at the site include high-quality sporting facilities such as an all-weather pitch and a two-court sports hall, accessible changing facilities, a large dining hall and kitchen, a common room and a range of therapy space as well as a new outside learning and play areas including classrooms, an outside gym and gardening areas.
The designs for the project included a number of sustainable and energy-saving features such as the installation of new solar panels to the building's roof.
ISG will remain on the site beyond 25 August to complete the demolition of the existing buildings and to finish the external areas.
Commenting on the new building, Cllr Jacquie Russell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "I am delighted that when our children return to Woodlands Meed in September, they will be able to start enjoying all the new facilities on offer at the college.
"These new facilities will help enable children and young people at Woodlands Meed to fulfil their potential, which is a key priority for West Sussex County Council. This has been a complicated project. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in getting us to this stage as we prepare to complete the new Woodlands Meed College."
