Morgan Sindall Construction has announced a new partnership with sustainable materials leader, EMR.
This ground-breaking collaboration is aimed at delivering lasting social impact in local communities across the UK and will raise thousands for local charities.
Morgan Sindall and EMR, who both have a long-standing commitment to protecting the planet and supporting communities, are leveraging their combined expertise with the aim of creating a legacy of positive change across the country.
This is not a new partnership, but an evolution of an existing collaboration between the two organisations as EMR has long supported Morgan Sindall's construction projects throughout the UK. Reclaimed metals from Morgan Sindall's construction projects will be collected by EMR and the value of the materials will be donated to local charitable causes. Materials collected from Manchester City Council's Hammerstone Depot and Newhouse Academy in Rochdale will be donated to the local conservation and regeneration initiative, City of Trees.
City of Trees is tackling the climate emergency head on by re-invigorating the Greater Manchester landscape, planting trees, and transforming underused woodland for the people and wildlife of the region. This is incredibly important to not only reduce the harmful impacts of greenhouse gases released into our atmosphere, but to also restore natural habitats and protect the biodiversity of our world.
To mark the start of this partnership, EMR and Morgan Sindall have donated a first instalment of £900 to City of Trees, which will facilitate the planting of 90 trees across the Greater Manchester, enhancing the environment of communities throughout the region.
Ben Taylor, Sector head for Construction and Utilities at EMR said: "At EMR, our purpose is to create a future where the materials we use do not need to be extracted from the planet. As well as working to build a sustainable planet, we are committed to making a positive impact in our communities, creating sustainable futures and lasting social value through collaborations and charitable partnerships.
"We're proud to announce Morgan Sindall as an official social value partner. This leading construction firm mirrors our core values, meaning this is a partnership that just makes sense. Not only are we working together to raise money local charities, but we're also enabling and accelerating the circular economy by putting the materials collected back into the supply chain, saving an incredible amount of CO2 from being released – compared to virgin ore.
"This is only the beginning. We are continually collecting materials from Morgan Sindall's construction sites, which will be valued, and the money donated to community initiatives across the country."
Kane Greenough, Supply Chain Sustainability Manager in Morgan Sindall Construction's North West team said: "This is an excellent example of linking social value with sustainability, creating a symbiotic relationship between environmentally responsible practices whilst providing a positive impact on local communities.
"This partnership reflects our Intelligent Solutions approach – our set of core principles that enable us to deploy technology and collaboration in order to help our customers and communities decarbonise. We're thrilled to be working with the team at EMR and are really excited at what can be achieved."
