NRC Pioneers Sustainable Waste Management Ahead Of UK's Recycle Week

Construction News Image
As the clock ticks down to the UK’s Recycle Week on October 16th, NRC sets the new gold standard for business waste recycling. With the world increasingly focused on reducing its carbon footprint, NRC seeks to not just participate, but lead this green charge in the commercial waste industry.

In the 2021-22 financial year, local authorities collected 23.7 million metric tons of waste in England alone. While the majority of the UK’s waste is household, businesses contribute a significant amount, discarding over 2.9 million tonnes of food waste annually, for example.

In this vast waste scenario, NRC stands apart. Far from being a run-of-the-mill waste management company, NRC's ethos is to go beyond compliance. Their aim is to set unparalleled standards for business waste management across the UK.

"The figures we see today emphasise the importance of Recycle Week," said Paul Jackson, Director. "Our vision extends beyond just the waste. We see a world filled with sustainable possibilities. Our mission is to aid businesses in fine-tuning their waste management, so they can effectively contribute to a green future."

Recycle Week, an initiative since 2004, has been a rallying point for various sectors, from retailers and brands to governments and media. This year, the focus of Recycle Week is 'The Big Hunt', aiming to uncover commonly overlooked recyclable waste. While the spotlight is primarily on household waste, NRC believes businesses have a pivotal role to play.

Paul Jackson added: "Business waste constitutes about a quarter of the UK's total waste. With only 44% of the country's waste being recycled, the significance of Recycle Week and the potential for improvement is evident."

What sets NRC apart is their comprehensive approach to waste. Their commitment is backed by impressive figures: NRC diverts 99% of the waste it collects from landfill, recycling 43%, and converting another 56% into green energy.

As businesses across the UK prepare for Recycle Week, NRC extends an invitation for companies to reconsider their waste management practices. Paul Jackson said: "In streamlining waste management processes, businesses can reduce their carbon footprint and tangibly contribute to a more sustainable future."
