Work Starts At Black Swan Loke In Norfolk

Construction News Image
Norfolk District Council has announced that improvement work has started at Black Swan Loke to create public space.

The plot at Black Swan Loke is undergoing a programme of works to transform it into a public open space, similar in design to Church Approach.

The improvement works, delivered as part of the North Walsham High Street Heritage Action Zone, will improve access from the car park into the town centre and create a vibrant area for the public to enjoy.

A compound has been set up around the site, and the wall dividing the Loke and the Car Park has been removed - the concrete foundation will be poured into the trench created from removing the wall, opening access between the two locations.

In the New Year, work will begin to create a sloped resin walkway and soft planting garden areas, with a new cladding feature on the far wall.

A new mosaic will be installed on the wall, designed with suggestions from North Walsham residents and will be unveiled when the works have been completed.

Contractors will be either recycling, or upcycling materials from previous works in North Walsham, to use in this site to minimize waste generation. Timbers removed from Cromer Pier as part of the structure works will be used to make the cladded wall.

The disabled parking bays located next to the removed wall have been temporarily closed off while the compound is set up, but five disabled bays are located on the other side of the car park.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of March.
