Improvement Works Commence In Sholing

Construction News Image
Improvement works have commenced on the junction of Spring Road and Station Road in Sholing, funded by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund.

The junction of Spring Road and Station Road will have a raised table with new parallel zebra crossings for pedestrians and cyclists to reduce vehicle speeds and make walking, wheeling and cycling to and from Sholing Station, Porchester Road and onward destinations easier and safer. In addition, three sets of speed cushions will be installed on Spring Road between Miller’s Pond Gardens and Pinegrove Road as an additional measure to reduce traffic speeds in this area.

The works are a part of the Eastern Quietway scheme which will create a designated route between Miller's Pond and the Itchen Bridge for people walking, wheeling or cycling as an alternative to using Portsmouth Road, providing a more pleasant journey for pedestrians and cyclists. While the improvements are installed, the junction of Spring Road and Station Road will be closed to vehicles for approximately eight weeks with diversion routes in place and clearly signposted. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the junction using temporary crossings and paths. More information about the closure of the junction and resident access can be found at Eastern Quietway.
