Haringey Council Announces Housing Retro Scheme

Construction News Image
Haringey Council have proposed a major retrofitting scheme in the Coldfall area, as part of their Housing Energy Action Plan.

The council has launched a public consultation to inform design decisions for the retrofitting scheme, which will see improvements made to some 200 properties.

The scheme will see the installation of measures such as external wall and loft installation as well as double glazed windows and doors to retain heat and reduce energy consumption.

It will reduce each households' carbon footprint, cut heating bills and ensure the homes are less prone to damp and mould.

The Coldfall scheme is part of the council's wider programme to gradually retrofit all 15,000 council homes and its mission to become a net zero carbon borough by 2041.

Cllr Sarah Williams, Cabinet Member for Housing and Planning said: "We're committed to improving the standard of our homes for the benefit of our residents – and reducing Haringey's carbon footprint. This scheme is important because it delivers on both those ambitions.

"We know that our homes at Coldfall are among our least energy efficient so this scheme has the potential to transform the lives of our residents, reducing their energy bills and making their homes much more comfortable to live in.

"We want to hear from as many residents as possible so we can deliver the best possible outcome.

"We would also like to thank Department for Energy Security and Net Zero whose support through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, Wave 2.2 is making the Coldfall scheme possible, along with our partners ECD Architects and Baily Garner."

The council has been working with residents over the last few months to survey properties so that it can deliver a tailored solutions for each home and deliver the best possible outcomes.

The consultation gives residents the opportunity to feedback on their homes as well as choosing the colourways for the external insulation panels that will give the homes a fresh appearance, as well as making homes cosier. The deadline for feedback is 25 September 2024.
