Bradford Forster Square Station Restores Full Accessibility

Construction News Image
Bradford's busiest rail station is once again fully accessible following the successful repair of storm-damaged equipment.

Heavy rain leaked through the roof of Bradford Forster Square station and into the lift shaft at the School Street entrance, causing extensive damage to the lift's ropes, pulleys, and doors, leaving it out of service and frustrating passengers.

After months of work, skilled engineers have now completed the repairs and safety checks, meaning passengers no longer have to use the alternate step-free access via Cheapside and can use all of the station’s facilities in full.

Richard Scrivener, asset engineer for Network Rail's North and East route said: "This turned out to be a much bigger repair than first met the eye – the rain-soaked lift needed major work to get it back up and running and I want to express my sincere thanks to passengers for their patience while we’ve been on site.

"This is an exciting time for Bradford, particularly as we build to 2025 and the introduction of the new platform, so to have the station back to full accessibility is something we’re pleased about."
