Wiltshire Council Completes Fisherton Gateway Improvements

Construction News Image
The substantial completion of the Fisherton Gateway scheme, a major road and public space improvement project, has been announced by Wiltshire Council.

Fisherton Street has now been reopened to two-way traffic. This revitalisation effort, funded by £9 million from the Future High Streets Fund, marks a key milestone in enhancing Salisbury's public spaces and pedestrian infrastructure.

The Fisherton Gateway improvements focus on creating a more accessible, inviting environment along South Western Road and Fisherton Street, key entry points to the city from Salisbury's railway station.

Wiltshire Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, Street Scene, and Flooding, Cllr Nick Holder, said: "These improvements – including wider pavements, new street lighting, enhanced landscaping, upgraded street furniture, improved wayfinding, and continuous footpaths at junctions to prioritise pedestrians – create a much more welcoming environment. This encourages visitors to spend more time in the area, which will benefit the local economy."

Cllr Holder also acknowledged the disruption caused by the works, expressing appreciation for the community’s patience during the project’s execution. The council has scheduled final snagging work to be completed by the end of October.
