Morgan Sindall Construction has completed the restoration of West Bromwich Town Hall and Library, revitalising the iconic Grade II listed building for the community.
Delivered five weeks ahead of schedule, the project preserves the historic site's architectural heritage while ensuring its future use as a vibrant civic space.
To celebrate the project's completion, Morgan Sindall presented the finished restoration to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC) members and Town Councillors, showcasing the transformation of the 1874-1875 structure originally designed by Alexander and Henman.
The extensive refurbishment included restoring heritage stonework, repairing timber sash windows, and creating a watertight envelope to protect the building. These efforts ensure the Town Hall and Library retain their prominent presence on West Bromwich High Street while remaining accessible for community use.
Morgan Sindall's focus on preserving original features has reinvigorated this important civic landmark, enabling greater public engagement with a site steeped in history.
Commitment to Social and Economic Value
Appointed by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council through the Construction West Midlands Framework, the project also generated over £4.5 million in social value, representing a 66% social return on investment. This achievement was measured through the Morgan Sindall Group’s Social Value Bank, aligned with HM Treasury’s Green Book guidelines.
Completed ahead of schedule, the restoration reflects Morgan Sindall's expertise in delivering complex heritage projects efficiently and sustainably. The project not only safeguards a historic landmark but enhances its role as a functional and improved civic space for the community.
