York Way Estate Reaches Construction Milestone In Islington
Representatives from the City of London Corporation, Islington Council, and Higgins Partnerships gathered recently to celebrate the completion of the tallest point of construction at the York Way Estate development in Islington, London.
The project, a collaboration between Higgins Partnerships and the City of London Corporation, will deliver 91 new affordable homes across four architect-designed buildings by Maccreanor Lavington. The development includes a range of studio, one, two, three, and four-bedroom homes, addressing the pressing demand for affordable housing in the area.
Half of the homes will be allocated to tenants on Islington Council's housing waiting list, providing safe and high-quality accommodation at subsidised social rents. The homes will meet a high Home Quality Mark, ensuring lower energy bills for residents and reduced environmental impact.
The York Way Estate development will also feature community-focused facilities, including a new community centre, an estate office, two playgrounds, a games area, and landscaped resident gardens, enhancing the quality of life for its future occupants.
Chair of the City of London Corporation's Community and Children’s Services Committee, Helen Fentimen, said: "The ceremony is an important milestone worth celebrating. This project embodies our commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homes that meet the needs of our diverse communities.
"We have an unwavering dedication to ensuring that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home. We look forward to welcoming residents to these new properties and seeing this development contribute to the vibrancy of the local area."
