Architecture Unknown To Expand Its Team
Architecture Unknown is set to expand its team as it tackles a growing portfolio of projects heading into 2025.
The firm has welcomed Alice Allen as an Architectural Assistant. Alice will contribute to projects across the North of England, including the Wibsey Community Gardens initiative.
Alice recently graduated with distinction from the Manchester School of Architecture, earning her master’s degree in architecture. During her studies, she gained hands-on experience during her part one placement with Loop Systems, where she continued to work part-time while completing her degree.
Founded in 2016 by Charlie Butterwick and Daniel Kelso, Architecture Unknown specialises in community-led architecture. Notable projects include the Peel Park Pavilion in Salford for Community Little Hulton and the Whalley Range Scout Hut in South Manchester.
The practice is also recognised for its expertise in WikiHouse construction — a low-cost, sustainable building solution that ensures high-quality results. This innovative method aligns perfectly with the firm’s commitment to delivering impactful, community-focused projects.
Alice said: "Architecture at its best is about community empowerment and collaborative design. My work, both in university and in practice aims to create spaces that reflect the diverse need and aspirations of local people.
"Architecture Unknown puts community at the heart of all its passion projects, it aims to foster a sense of local ownership and strives to get into the DNA of an area. The practice felt a natural fit, and the new role gives me the opportunity to work on meaningful projects in the heart of communities."
