Warwick District Council has given the green light to the Priory Pools Community Centre, a project that will create a dedicated space for residents of the Packmores Estate and surrounding areas.
The approval marks the success of a long-standing campaign led by the local community, including the Packmores Residents Association and The Gap, with strong backing from local councils.
Situated on the edge of Priory Park, the new centre will include a spacious multi-purpose hall, meeting rooms, interview spaces, and a community café. The facility will replace the ageing Packmores Centre at Sussex Court, which no longer meets the needs of the growing community.
The development is seen as a major step forward for the area, offering modern amenities to foster social connections, host events, and provide essential services. Community leaders hailed the decision as a victory for residents, with the new centre set to become a vital hub for local activities and support.
Construction timelines and further details about the project are expected to be announced in the coming months.
Councillor Jim Sinnott, Portfolio Holder (Communities & Leisure) at Warwick District Council commented: "We're delighted to see this project move forward after years of dedicated campaigning by residents. The new Priory Pools Community Centre will provide a sustainable base for local organisations to deliver vital services. This facility will greatly enhance community wellbeing and bring people together."
The Priory Pools Community Centre charity, established to lead the project, has already received backing from local councils and funding organisations, and is supported by local councillors. However, additional support will be needed to bring the vision to life."
