Beard Construction has raised over £50,000 for charitable causes in 2024. Colleagues across the company's five offices in Swindon, Bristol, Oxford, Guildford and Southampton participated in a range of fundraising activities. These included physically demanding challenges, anxiety management workshops and dress-down days. Fourteen charities benefited from the fundraising efforts, with each office selecting a nominated charity of the year.
Teams undertook challenges, including:
• Swindon raised £13,254 for the Swindon Hardship Fund through a golf day, tough mudder, Bristol half marathon, Wiltshire three peaks challenge, anxiety management workshops, and dress down days.
• Oxford raised a total of £19,890 through a 'cyclathon', summer BBQ, and volunteer garden clear out to support Oxford University Sport & Community Partnership.
• £7,808 was raised by colleagues in Guildford through a trek to Mount Snowdon, 'Wolf Run' obstacle course, five-a-side football, and dress down days - with funds going to Shooting Stars Hospice.
• Bristol fundraised for Grief Encounter, with a golf day, 100K bike ride, volunteer garden clear out raising £8,770.
• Southampton, Beard's newest office which opened earlier this year, raised £1,246 through a 500K in a week distance challenge, for Rowan's Hospice.
Other charities that benefitted from Beard's fundraising included Katharine House Hospice, Alzheimer's Society, Sobell House Hospice, Activate Rugby Academy, Julia's House Hospice, Sussex Heritage Trust, History of Science Museum's Centenary, Oxford Hospitals Charity, and Help Bristol's Homeless.
Mark Beard, company chairman, said: "I am exceptionally proud of all Beard colleagues and our partners and for the significant efforts they have put into helping charities and good causes this year, giving their own time and resource and taking on some impressive challenges.
"As a company, we're committed to supporting the communities in which we work and, in many cases, the funds raised by our team have been match-funded by the Beard Charitable Foundation, which was designed to champion initiatives driven by our people, as well as local construction education projects."
A flagship event was the firm's inaugural 'cyclathon' which saw Beard's Oxford team along with project partners and sub-contractors virtually cycle 2,420 miles raising £8,200 for Oxford University Sport & Community Partnership. This was match-funded by the Beard Charitable Foundation to bring the total to £16,400.
