Witney Library To Undergo Major Refurbishment

Construction News Image
Witney library on Welch Way is set to receive a significant upgrade, with work scheduled to begin on February 24.

Oxfordshire County Council's refurbishment plans aim to transform the library into a modern, energy-efficient space for the community.

To accommodate the renovations, the library will close temporarily, reopening in the summer. During this time, a temporary library will operate at Witney Fire Station from February 26, offering a limited selection of books, computer access, printing services, and bus pass validation.

The refurbishment includes key upgrades to heating systems, windows, insulation, and roof repairs to reduce carbon emissions and heating costs. Once complete, the library will feature moveable shelving for flexible event spaces, an enhanced children’s area, dedicated study and work zones, and an expanded collection of new books.

Funding for the project comes from central government decarbonisation initiatives, contributions from local developers through section 106 agreements, and support from Oxfordshire County Council.

The upgrades reflect the council's vision of creating sustainable, vibrant community spaces while maintaining essential services for residents.
