Clancy has been named a delivery partner by Affinity Water to support the rollout of smart meters across London, the east, and the southeast of England during the AMP8 regulatory period.
In collaboration with delivery partner Bregan MainsFlow and connectivity provider Arqiva, the team will install approximately 400,000 smart meters by 2030. The five-year programme, valued at £50 million between the two delivery partners, includes end-to-end services such as excavations, installations, and reinstatements for residential and commercial properties. Additionally, 320,000 existing smart meters will be replaced to ensure the accuracy and reliability of collected data.
The rollout is a key element of Affinity Water's Water Resource Management Plan (WRMP), which seeks to tackle water stress and ensure a sustainable supply for future generations. By increasing network visibility and enabling targeted investment, the programme supports the company’s goal of reducing leakages by 50% by 2050.
Smart meters will empower customers to monitor their water usage and costs in real time, promoting water conservation and protecting vital ecosystems, such as chalk streams. Enhanced data from the programme will also improve leak detection and enable quicker repairs, contributing to better water management.
Clancy will leverage its extensive expertise in civil engineering to deliver efficient installations across diverse terrains on both public and private land. This project continues Clancy’s long-standing success in implementing smart metering solutions while supporting Affinity Water’s mission to create a sustainable future.
