Construction News Image
Plans to improve walking and cycling access around Elland and West Vale have taken a significant step forward with Esh Construction appointed to finalise the detailed designs for the Elland Access Package in collaboration with Calderdale Council.

Approved by planners in November 2024, the designs for the project will soon be submitted to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority for final approval. The development will create new walking and cycling routes connecting Elland town centre to West Vale, Greetland and Exley, while also including the construction of two new pedestrian and cycle bridges over the River Calder and the Calder and Hebble Navigation.

The project aims to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists, with upgrades to existing routes and public spaces, as well as the installation of new lighting and landscaping. The Elland Access Package will also support access to the planned Elland Rail Station, providing safer and more convenient travel options for local communities.

Procured through the YORhub's YORcivil3 framework, the project will be funded through a partnership between the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Calderdale Council, with additional support from the Transforming Cities Fund. This initiative forms part of the larger Elland Rail Station and Access Package aimed at improving transportation links and boosting local connectivity in the region.
