£200m Middlesbrough Regeneration Project Reaches Key Milestone

Construction News Image
A landmark £200 million regeneration project in central Middlesbrough has taken a major step forward with the submission of a planning application.

Property developers iMpeC and Buccleuch Property have applied to Middlesbrough Development Corporation for approval to build over 230 build-to-rent properties and a new student accommodation block for more than 400 residents on a derelict site in Gresham.

The project, hailed as the largest single investment in Middlesbrough in a generation, will also feature a new hotel alongside professional and student living spaces. Middlesbrough Development Corporation has partnered with the experienced developers to bring the ambitious Gresham project to life.

The planning application follows an extensive consultation process, incorporating feedback from local residents, businesses, and community groups to help shape the development.

In October, it was revealed that international hotel brand Fairfield by Marriott is in discussions to open a 200-bedroom hotel at the corner of Borough Road, near Union Street and Hartington Road.

Construction giant Wates has been appointed as the lead contractor for the development, while Middlesbrough Development Corporation approved an additional £7 million funding package in December to support the project.

If approved, the regeneration is expected to transform the area, creating modern living spaces and boosting the local economy.
