Work to improve accessibility at Barnt Green station is set to begin next week, with Network Rail commencing on-site preparations from Monday, 3 February.
This marks the first step towards major construction in the spring, which will see lifts installed on the existing footbridge connecting all four platforms.
The £7.5 million project, expected to be completed by autumn, will introduce three lifts to provide step-free access for all passengers. This significant upgrade will benefit those with reduced mobility, pushchairs, or heavy luggage, making train travel more accessible and convenient.
During the preparation phase, Network Rail will establish a site compound, bring in materials and machinery, and conduct ground surveys across the station. To ensure safety, sections of platforms 1 and 2 will be temporarily closed, though train access will remain unaffected.
Car parking will be limited due to the site compound, but temporary disabled parking spaces will be made available. Network Rail is working closely with West Midlands Railway to minimise disruption to passengers and the local community while the work is underway.
