Newly Refurbished Leisure Centre In Glastonbury Opens
Somerset Council has announced that the newly refurbished Tor Sports and Leisure facility in Glastonbury will reopen to the public on 3 February.
This significant milestone marks the completion of the first project under the Glastonbury Town Deal, and showcases the town’s commitment to enhancing local amenities for all residents and visitors.
The £2.2 million refurbishment has transformed the council-owned Tor Sports and Leisure facility in Glastonbury into a modern community sports and leisure hub.
Delivered on time and within budget, Somerset Council appointed Pick Everard as project manager and quantity surveyor. Operating through Perfect Circle and accelerated under the SCAPE Consultancy framework, Pick Everard worked alongside construction contractors Rigg Construction (Southern) Ltd.
The Council has now handed the site back to its tenant and leisure operator Fusion Lifestyle whose valuable input has been integral to the design and build to ensure the new facility is fit for purpose and offers visitors a great experience across all aspects of sports and leisure. The Council would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the trades and suppliers who have helped deliver this project.
This new space can benefit everyone, from local sports clubs to community groups and casual users seeking recreational activities. It now features improved access to modern facilities and flexible multi-use spaces designed to accommodate a wide range of sports and leisure activities, including a brand-new state-of-the-art gym, newly refurbished bar, meeting and event rooms, changing place facility and much more.
Sustainability has been a key focus throughout the project helping Glastonbury become a zero-carbon town. New energy-efficient measures have been installed including extra insulation added to the roof. Contractors working on the project were sourced locally and materials from the old building reused, wherever possible.
Tor Leisure will also soon benefit from another Town Deal project, and Glastonbury Clean Energy will be adding rooftop solar panels to generate clean energy this spring.
