Construction Begins On New Primary School In Stafford
Work has officially begun on Burleyfields Primary School, a new educational facility set to open in Stafford for the 2025/26 academic year.
The school, located on Martin Drive, will be part of the Creative Learning Partnership Trust, helping to meet the growing demand for school places in the area.
The project is being led by Midlands contractor G F Tomlinson, alongside Entrust, and is being delivered through the Constructing West Midlands framework on behalf of Staffordshire County Council.
Once completed, the two-storey, two-form entry (2FE) school will provide 420 places for students from reception to Year 6, with enrolment phased in gradually. The development will also include landscaping, car parking, and pedestrian and vehicle access routes.
The school will feature 15 classrooms, a library, special educational needs (SEN) rooms, a hall, a kitchen, offices, and breakout spaces for staff, as well as a dedicated studio.
Burleyfields Primary School is part of the wider Burleyfields housing development, which has introduced 1,600 new homes to the area. This marks the 10th school to be delivered for Staffordshire County Council using the Touchstone design model, reinforcing its commitment to modern, high-quality educational facilities.
A groundbreaking ceremony recently marked the official start of construction. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from G F Tomlinson, Staffordshire County Council, Entrust, and the Creative Learning Partnership Trust.
To minimise disruption to local residents, a detailed delivery time management schedule has been put in place, and ongoing communication with the community will ensure they are kept informed about progress.
G F Tomlinson has a strong track record in the education sector, having delivered nine schools across Staffordshire, including St Leonard’s Primary School and Beaconfields Primary School. As part of its commitment to community engagement, the contractor has invited future students to contribute design ideas for the school, incorporating their input into the final aesthetic.
In addition, G F Tomlinson will offer site tours and engagement events, providing local families with an opportunity to connect with the project as they prepare for the new school's opening.
Group managing director of G F Tomlinson, Adrian Grocock, said: "It's an honour to continue our long-standing relationship with Staffordshire County Council providing much needed educational provision in the region.
"Following our ground-breaking ceremony, we are well-positioned to deliver the build for this landmark primary school, ensuring much-needed primary and nursery places in the area."
