Bury Council has appointed build-to-rent specialist Placefirst as its preferred partner to convert the 30,000 sq ft Humphrey House office site into 74 high-quality rental homes in the town centre.
The project is part of Bury's broader regeneration efforts and aligns with the Council’s housing strategy to create a balanced and diverse housing supply. By increasing the number of safe and secure rental homes, the scheme aims to support the town’s growing demand for high-quality living spaces.
During its procurement process, Bury Council sought an experienced build-to-rent developer with a strong track record in conversion and regeneration projects. Placefirst demonstrated its expertise with successful schemes like Elevate Manchester, where it transformed a former job centre into a thriving rental community that was 85% pre-let upon completion.
The developer is also advancing a £35 million residential scheme in nearby Bolton, where it is delivering 167 homes on a 1.1-hectare brownfield site as part of Bolton Council's £1 billion town centre masterplan.
Phil Jones, Development Director at Placefirst: "Bury Council's commitment to a people-first approach in its housing strategy aligns with our dedication to ensuring high-quality homes are available to all. Our commitment to delivering energy efficient homes that lower bills for residents will also ensure that this project meaningfully contributes to the positive regeneration of the town centre. We look forward to working closely in partnership with Bury Council and beginning work on site later this year."
