Hinkley Point C to Create 3,000 Jobs In Somerset

Hinkley Point C, Britain's largest low-carbon energy project, is set to create 3,000 new jobs over the next 18 months as construction ramps up in Somerset.
With around 15,000 workers expected on-site by the time the project hits peak construction, local residents will see a surge in employment opportunities, particularly in skilled roles.
The project has also announced it has surpassed its apprenticeship target, with 1,500 apprentices now trained—500 more than initially planned. A majority of these apprentices (70%) are from the South West, and more opportunities are expected to follow.
As the construction of the new power station intensifies, many of the new roles will focus on the fit-out of the station, involving miles of piping, cables, and various other equipment installations. Additional jobs will support the growing workforce across a wide range of disciplines.
Hinkley Point C has been working to equip local workers with the skills needed for the project by setting up three 'Centres of Excellence' in Bridgwater and Cannington. Over 8,000 individuals have already received training in welding, electrical, and mechanical disciplines. The National College for Nuclear in Cannington is also playing a key role in preparing the next generation of nuclear industry professionals.
Many of the apprentices started their careers through the project's Somerset-based Young HPC programme, and ongoing career support is available through the Hinkley Point C Jobs Service in Bridgwater.
To address the growing demand for housing and local services, Hinkley Point C has been collaborating closely with local authorities. Increased funding for community measures is being rolled out as the workforce expands, including a £9 million accommodation fund that is helping to deliver 4,000 new bed spaces in nearby towns. The project’s Community Fund has now distributed more than £16 million to local community groups and initiatives. Other support for local policing, tourism, and public safety will also be ramped up as part of the expansion.
