Three Homes Built In A Day Showcases Innovation At The Three Oaks Development

The rapid construction of three homes in a single day at the Three Oaks development has highlighted the potential of modern methods of construction (MMC) and the skills of the local workforce in tackling the Isle of Wight’s housing needs.
The milestone was the centerpiece of an event hosted by Sovereign Network Group (SNG) and Captiva Homes, the development partners behind Three Oaks, which is delivering 145 much-needed affordable homes in Newport. This is the largest affordable housing project the island has seen in years. Isle of Wight-based Gibbs Timber Frame completed the structural assembly of three homes in a single working day, demonstrating how MMC can accelerate construction while enhancing sustainability.
Each home at Three Oaks will meet SNG's Homes and Place Standard, ensuring high-quality, sustainable, and community-focused living spaces. These homes are among the first in a new standard portfolio achieving over 75% carbon reduction, aligning with the Future Homes Standard. The result? Homes that are warmer, healthier, more energy-efficient, and cost-effective for residents.
The event was attended by Isle of Wight Council Leader Cllr Phil Jordan and Deputy Leader Cllr Ian Stephens, along with senior figures from SNG and Captiva Homes. Three Oaks is a priority project for the council, addressing a 60% surge in demand for temporary housing over the past two years due to a shrinking rental market.
SNG, Captiva Homes, and the council's Housing and Planning teams have worked closely to tailor the development to local needs. The 145 homes will be split between 87 for social rent and 58 for Shared Ownership, including larger family homes designed specifically for households currently in temporary council accommodation.
