GRAHAM Appointed To Complete Coventry's Cultural Gateway Project

Construction News Image
GRAHAM has been appointed as the new contractor to complete work on the City Centre Cultural Gateway (CCCG) in Coventry, following a pause in construction after previous contractor ISG entered administration last September.

The CCCG, located in the former IKEA store, is set to become a major cultural landmark for the city. Once completed, it will bring together a variety of local, regional and national partners from the creative and cultural sectors to create a vibrant destination in the heart of Coventry.

Key project partners, including Arts Council England, the British Council, CV Life, and Coventry University, have welcomed GRAHAM's appointment, praising the firm's ability to carry the project forward. Coventry City Council is working closely with these major partners, each contributing its expertise to enhance the city’s cultural offering.

The Arts Council Collection, one of the world's largest collections of modern and contemporary British art, will play a central role in the CCCG, with over 8,000 works of art to be displayed. The collection reaches more than one million people each year, adding significant cultural value to the project.

The British Council has also chosen to relocate its national collection to Coventry, bringing a wealth of 20th-century and contemporary British art to the city. Additionally, CV Life will consolidate its holdings into the CCCG, streamlining the management of its collection and enhancing the display and rotation of items.

Coventry University will occupy the fifth and sixth floors of the building, where it plans to establish new research, innovation, and enterprise facilities. This will complement the university's existing campus in the city centre, particularly the Delia Derbyshire building. The space aims to foster community engagement and contribute to the growth of the city's cultural and creative economy.

GRAHAM will begin work on the CCCG site in Spring 2025, with construction expected to be completed by Summer 2026.
