Construction News Image
S.E.M.CO has completed phase 3 of Racking Project for Timber Merchant.

S.E.M.CO has worked with various branches of this well-known Independent Timber & Builder Merchant for over 25 years and has recently completed Phase 1 & 2 of their new storage solutions at their 11-acre South West-based site.

The site, one of the company's larger multi-operational distribution centres operates a sawmill and treatment facility servicing the group as well as external customers throughout the UK and The Channel Islands.

Phase 3, the biggest phase to date was completed in 2 weeks and has been transformative to the site and how it operates.

"When we started the project, we knew where we wanted to go, but didn't know how to get there. The team at S.E.M.CO helped us create that vision," said Site Operations Manager, Paul Tugwell.

Warehouse & Yard Racking Manufacturer

When the site was acquired in 2019 it was in a deteriorating condition and has been brought up to date over the past 5 years.

Working closely with S.E.M.CO the requirements and needs of the site were identified allowing them to design a plan that would optimise space whilst minimising disruption and enabling 100% selectivity of stock.

"We have enjoyed a long working relationship with S.E.M.CO underpinned by the team's excellent customer service, efficiency and proven product solutions," added Lee Wright - Managing Director.

"The installation teams were excellent, they were incredibly efficient, safe, and knowledgeable, explaining the process throughout." Paul Tugwell - Site Operations Manager

Timber Merchant Racking Supplier

The installation crew took 2 weeks to install 4 runs of double-sided Cantilever Racking, which consisted of 33 columns at 5928mm high and were configured into 3 column blocks, or 11 double-sided racks.

Additional arms and columns were provided to allow for flexibility of the racking when product lines change.

All components were fully galvanised to protect it from weathering and to increase its longevity in the covered, open-ended warehouse.

"We are future-proofing the site, to make it more sustainable and last for many years to come." Paul Tugwell - Site Operations Manager

Benefits of Timber Racking Solutions

Choosing the right racking supplier can make a huge difference in the benefits you can achieve from your storage systems.

This Timber Merchant has noticed increased storage capacity and selectivity as well as less product damage and deterioration. Since the installation, the facility has been easier to navigate stock, cutting selecting and loading time by up to 50%.

They also expect forklifts to use significantly less fuel after project completion, reducing carbon emissions and improving operational efficiency.
