One of the UK's largest brownfield redevelopment projects has officially commenced, with multi-disciplinary consultancy Pick Everard providing key support in the transformation of Doncaster's vast waterfront site.
The project, located on Chappell Drive, will see the complete remediation and redevelopment of 22 acres of land adjacent to both the River Don and the city centre. Once completed, the large-scale regeneration will be "more viable for future development," according to planning officers.
Previously underutilised, the site was occupied by small car parks, industrial units, a scrapyard, and a pumping station. Given its historical uses and proximity to the River Don, extensive remediation work is required to prepare it for future development.
Nick Mooney, associate in project management at Pick Everard said: "The initial stages of this project have commenced for what will be a landmark project in the UK. This is the first step that will eventually see the area completely transformed and ready for future development.
"Previously, the site was used as a cattle market and gas works, which have posed some unique considerations and required essential remediation. Our team is fully equipped with the expertise and experience needed to support delivery of each stage of the project to a high standard.
"We're collaborating closely with the City of Doncaster Council to bring its unique vision to life and become a leading example of regeneration in the North of England."
The Doncaster Waterfront Remediation project is being delivered by City of Doncaster Council with partial funding from the UK Government and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
Pick Everard has been appointed to provide project management, cost management, quantity surveying, civil engineering, health and safety, and environmental services. The firm is working through Perfect Circle, accelerated under the SCAPE Consultancy Framework – Built Environment, alongside main contractor Keltbray. The project is expected to be completed by early 2026.
