Construction has officially begun on a major housing development at Barton Hall Drive on the Isle of Sheppey, marking the start of Persimmon Homes' Ovinia Chase community.
The development will deliver 700 much-needed homes, including affordable rent and shared ownership properties, to help address local housing demand.
Recently, Craig West, Construction Director for Persimmon Homes South East, broke ground on the first phase of the project, which will feature 127 newly designed homes ranging from two- to four-bedroom properties. Following the ceremony, groundworkers moved in to prepare the site and outline the plots for future homes.
As part of its commitment to increasing housing supply in Swale, Persimmon Homes is also preparing to launch another development in Sittingbourne.
Local MP Kevin McKenna joined Craig West at Crown Quay Lane, where Persimmon is set to build 33 new homes on a former brownfield site previously occupied by a logistics company. The exclusive community will include 21 apartments, a fully accessible home, starter homes, and larger family houses, with construction expected to commence in the coming weeks.
During his visit to Crown Quay Lane, Kevin McKenna MP highlighted the importance of regeneration projects: "This is exactly the type of regeneration this area needs, Persimmon Homes are redeveloping a brownfield site right in the heart of Sittingbourne. The range of homes means they will be well suited to first-time buyers and those looking for larger homes.
"With development starting on these two sites in the area, Persimmon Homes are contributing to the government meeting our housing targets."
