Galliford Try Begins £63m Living Accommodation Project

Construction News Image
Galliford Try's Building East Midlands business has officially broken ground on a £63 million Single Living Accommodation (SLA) project at RAF Digby, Lincolnshire.

The historic base, the Royal Air Force's oldest station established in 1918, will see the construction of four new Junior Ranks SLA buildings as part of the development.

Representatives from Galliford Try were joined by officials from the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) and technical support provider Arcadis to mark the occasion. Procured through the DIO, the project will include the construction of four modern accommodation buildings, along with ancillary facilities and car parking.

Each new building will house 69 individual bedrooms spread over three floors, providing essential amenities such as a kitchenette, laundry facilities, drying rooms, and communal social spaces for personnel stationed at RAF Digby.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the project aligns with the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) and the UK government's wider initiative to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The buildings will feature energy-efficient solutions, including photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, temperature-controlled heating zones, and LED lighting. Additional environmentally friendly measures include electric vehicle (EV) charging points and a heat recovery system for wastewater from showers.

Jon Marston, Managing Director for Galliford Try Building East Midlands, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the DIO in delivering this important project. Our business has a strong track record in providing high-quality accommodation for our service personnel, and we look forward to working with all the stakeholders involved to create a fantastic new facility for RAF Digby."
